N is for New Opportunities

Good evening!  I can't believe how fast this month is flying by!  It is hard to believe Easter is almost here.

Today for the letter N, my topic is New Opportunities.

Those of you who have been following my blog for a while know that the school Darbee is at right now only goes through kindergarten.  We have been so pleased with her here but as the year draws to a close, we have to face the fact she will have to move on to a new school and new friends and new opportunities next year.

A flyer came home with her at the end of last year advertising a new school in the area.  I had heard a little about it but kept it in the back of my mind because I knew we were safe for this year.  Right before Christmas, another flyer came home about the same school.  I have talked to several people who know parents whose kids go there and they only had positive things to say.  I knew I wanted to check it out.

I read all of the information on their website and signed up to attend an informational meeting at the school.  Stacy and I went and was so impressed.  Everything sounded so good and like something that would fit what we really wanted for Darbee.

After prayerfully considering the school for several months, we decided it was where we wanted her to be.  Legacy Preparatory Academy.

We had to fill out an application for her and attend a family interview.  There was also an entrance exam for Darbee.  We  had our family interview a few weeks ago and I have to admit it was intense.  It was good though.  We were interviewed by the board of the school.  Talk about nervous wreck!  They were all so nice and eager to learn more about us and also willing to open up about themselves.  It is a Christian based school so the interview was a bit personal as we all discussed our testimonies and how God has blessed our lives.  It really was neat.  It made me excited to know that Darbee would be attending a school with Christian teachers who care about not only her education but her well being and relationship with God as well.

She did great on the testing.  She scored 4th grade 8th month in reading and 5th grade 2nd month in spelling. I was so proud of her.

We got our acceptance package and couldn't be happier!  We are so excited about this new opportunity for our family.

This school is a little different though.  What makes it unique is that it is a blend of home school and private Christian school. It is a University Model School which means students in grades 1-5 attend school two days per week and are schooled at home three days per week.  The students are given assignments to complete at home under the supervision of the parents in their "satellite classroom."  How neat!  It is the best of both worlds to me.  She will still have the classroom environment but we will also be able to learn together at home part of the time.  I love this new idea of school.
You can read more about university model schools here.   Darbee is so excited.  She has already met her teacher.  She is thrilled about getting to wear a uniform.  She can't wait!

To say we are excited is a major understatement.  We are thrilled with the new opportunity and thankful God led us to this school.

Until next time...
