VBS....done!

Is anyone else as glad as I am that it is Friday?  Whew...What a week!

This week was VBS at our church.  As I posted in an earlier post, I was teaching crafts this year.  I had done a lot of prepping and researching for fun crafts.  We had a great week.  There were lots of kids and for that we were thankful. 

Our theme this year was Amazing Wonders Aviation.  Each room was a different destination.  My room was the Great Barrier Reef.  We were under the sea.  I was happy with the way my room turned out.

Darbee was in the pre-k class.  She had a blast.  She was excited to go every night. 

Of course, she enjoyed dancing each night. :)

I peeped in her room off and on to snap a few pictures! They were making

It was fun, but I am so glad it is over!

Getting Ready...

I remember as a young child, one of the highlights of summer would be vacation Bible school at our little church.  Yes, it is a small country church, but it was always so much fun.  

Now that I am grown, I still get excited as I have the chance to prepare a room and teach.  The school teacher part of me jumps up and down with excitement as I get to add creative touches to a room and come up with fun activities to teach the love of Jesus to these children.  

I have taught crafts the past few years and this year as well.  Today, I began decorating in my room to prepare for the first day of Bible school on Monday.  Our overall theme this year is Amazing Wonders Aviation.  Kind of a hard theme to decorate for.  BUT..the good thing is each room is an "amazing wonder" so my room is the Great Barrier Reef!  Yes!  How easy to decorate!  

Here's what I started with.  

This room is currently being used as a Sunday School room.  My intention was 

to find some way to decorate where nothing had to be taken off the walls.

I do not like having to stay late on the last night of Bible school and take down decorations and redo the room.  Ugh...I am ready to get home.  So.....since we are supposed to be under the sea, blue tablecloths 

were the perfect wall covering! 

You are able to see thru them a little bit, but you won't be able to when I'm done!

Here is the progress so far.  

Keep in mind, it is nowhere near done, but a lot of progress was made today!

Darbee Rae had fun too!  We had to clean out one corner of the room and part of the Christmas play Jesus costume was in there.  Darbee Rae quickly put it on and said, "hohoho!"  How cute

A lot was accomplished today and I am proud.  Still have a good bit to go, but it will get done this weekend.  

We have had a few storms and a bit of rain this evening, but not nearly enough.

Supposed to be more tomorrow.

Fantastic Fourth

Good evening friends.   Boy am I mixed up today!  Next year, I'm putting in my order for the 4th to be on the weekend!  Ha!  Sure threw a kink in our week.  Hubby had the day off yesterday but had to be back at work this morning and has to work thru the weekend! :(  

We had a great 4th and I hope all of you did too!  We enjoyed time with family a friends who are like family and made lots of memories.

We live just down the street from where the fireworks are shot and can see them thru the trees.  As long as hubby and I have been married, it has been a tradition for everyone to gather at our home and celebrate and watch the fireworks.  It's always a good time.

I will warn you ahead of time, this post it picture heavy...yet another post that will be included in my blog book....I must have the pictures documented...(Smile)  It's amazing how fast Darbee Rae is growing up and I   know I will treasure those blog books one day as I sit and look back.

So, following along if you wish...

Darbee Rae has been ready for the holiday for weeks.  

She looks forward to having everyone here at our house.

She wanted to take the small flags outside and decorate the walkway.

I saw a good chance for a photo opportunity, 

so I followed along behind her with my camera!

I love her carefree spirit.  Not a care or worry in the world

My father-in-law built this wagon.  No pattern...nothing.

It is amazing to me.  The two smaller wheels were his as a child.  Don't you just love it?

I used it last year at Darbee's birthday party and plan to use it again this year....Can't wait to fill it with pumpkins!

Darbee loves it when he hooks it up to his mower and pulls her.  

What a treat!

I can't believe how long her hair is getting!

Her facial expressions crack me up sometimes! (SMILE)

But her smile warms my heart always....

I made her outfit!  I was so proud of myself.  I am not great with

a sewing machine, but I worked hard and loved how it turned out!

She had cute flip flops to match, but of course she chose to wear her "high heel ruby red slippers."  

Whatever makes her happy huh?  At least they matched.  :)

Aunt Maudie came and brought two bags of goodies.  It was like Christmas to Darbee Rae!

She was thrilled with the candy in her "firecracker."

We all enjoyed good food and sweets.  

Darbee Rae went for the cupcakes.

Some friends of ours drove their antique truck.  I just love it.

Of course, it was another photo opportunity!

This was the coolest thing! These little firecracker chickens whistled and then blew up

the balloon!  So cute!

We had pretty ones too!

I love this one!  Maudie brought a light up spinner too!

We had a yard full!  We are so blessed with such good friends and family.

The yards beside us and across the road were full of folks too...such a cozy feeling.

We were patiently waiting for the fireworks to start.

Finally...

It was a great holiday.

Getting Ready...

Good evening friends.  I hope all of you are doing well.  Are you ready to celebrate America's birthday?  We are!  Darbee Rae is so excited about the fireworks.  

We live just down the road from where the fireworks are shot off.  You can see them thru the trees from our front yard.  Since hubby and I have been married, we have hosted a 4th of July gathering.  

Everyone gathers at our house early in the afternoon.  There is usually watermelon and homemade ice cream.  True southern must haves at a gathering huh?  (Smile) Would you like to join us?  We would love to have you!  

We have spruced up the outside a little to get ready for the holiday.

The screened in porch is ready for our guests in case it rains.  Last year, we huddled in here and tried

to see the fireworks thru the woods because it came a big storm!

While we wait for guests to arrive, we can sit on the screened in porch and sip some summer punch.  

This way, the mosquitos won't bother us. :)

We have converted the carport area to a porch area as well.  I love it out here.

It's nice to sit "in the shade" and be able to watch Darbee ride her bike down the driveway.

The old milk can sat for years on my grandmother's porch.  It was red and held their broom straw brooms that were used to sweep their driveway.  I got it when she moved to the nursing home and painted it black.  I used my cricut machine to put the D on it.  Don't you just love the old "prim" bench?  I found it at a yard sale for $5.  I couldn't pass it up.  It was missing a piece on the bottom, but my daddy fixed it for me.  He can do anything.  Ha!

I love this area.  I leave the lamp on all the time.  

It looks so cozy at night. 

See the wooden table?  My grandaddy made it.  I found it in my aunt's basement when they moved.

She was going to put it by the road.  I couldn't get rid of it.

So.  You choose the spot...it's ready for you to join us.  I promise we will have a good time.

We might fire up the grill....

Or enjoy some homemade ice cream....

Whatever we choose, we will enjoy.
