Back to school

There is something about this time of year that puts a spark of excitement in my soul.
I was one of those kids that always LOVED school!  I can remember the excitement of going shopping and getting new notebooks, pencils and school clothes.  Everything was always so perfect and ready.
I guess that's something that carried over to my love for teaching.  Getting my own classroom and buying new things for it is always so much fun.  Although I will not be returning to the classroom this year, I still have the excitement of the school year.  This year is a little more special because my little one will begin her school journey.  She starts pre-k this year.  I only hope and pray that she develops the love for school and learning that I had.  Just today, she got out her notebook with paper and said, "Mommy, I am already getting ready for back to school.  I have my notebook already."  She also asked me to help her make a list of all of the school supplies that she will need.  :)  She won't be needing too many supplies as she will be attending a private school.  There is a supply fee included in the tuition which covers her needs.  How nice. :)
She thought of what she needed and asked for help spelling it all.  Here is her list:
Notice that it had to be on "school paper" too?  Yup..that's my girl.

Anyway.....as a young child another bit of excitement was my mama decorating our back to school tree.  She always made each holiday special and that is something I wanted to do for Darbee Rae.
I posted about my new twig tree last week.  It is now decorated for back to school.
We used real school supplies to decorate with.
I love how it turned out!

We also decorated our dining room table.

Darbee Rae was happy to contribute some of her items for decorating the table. :)
I put her magnetic letters to use.

This is sitting on my table riser my dad made for me.
Hubby found the glass fruit jar at an estate sale.  I tied the burlap around it.

I used my red charger plates with white plates sitting on top.  I put composition
notebooks on top of those and added an apple.

It is all ready for back to school!

The only thing left to do is make our back to school banner for the mantel.  It will get done soon!

School heads back in session for our county on Monday.  Wow!  How time flies.
If I were returning to the classroom, I would have gone back today.
Instead...what did I do today?
My buddy and I browsed around Goodwill and then came home and enjoyed lunch with Nana.  Then, we played....

She loves Legos.  Today's task was to build a house.
Yes..I had one happy little girl...

She built the bottom part and asked me to help put a roof on it.
We did just that...all afternoon, we finished her house.

A perfect ending to a good day?

Hubby brought home Chick-fil-A.
Yes, I am happy to support Chick-fil-A and their beliefs.
I worked here at our CFA for 5 years and trust me...they are a wonderful company.

It's been a good day.
I hope all of you have had a good day too.

Until next time....
